More for the Short Time – Part 2

This time it is the ST hotel with no name on the 3rd floor, right above Hollywood Inn in Nana Plaza. They have raised the ST room price from 300 to 350 baht. Low season? Economic downturn? Japanese earthquake?
No. Competition!
Like more and more ST hotels they now officially give a commission to each girl bringing a customer to their hotel. The commission is 50 baht. And guess who pays for it?
The friend who told me the story speaks understands Thai very well. He told me that on his way in he complained in English about the new price but was only answered with a shrug. Then on his way back, the cashier told something in Thai to the girl and show her a piece of folded “paper”. The girl didn’t get it straight but my friend did. He told her: “This is for you, this is a commission”. She figured out when she unfolded the paper that it was a 50 baht bill!
Now, I know that 50 baht is not a lot of money, especially for our readers who will convert this amount in a western currency and compare with prices at home, but still it is an unfair policy. On top of that, I don’t appreciate the fact that they openly take 50 baht from the customer to give them to the girl!
Two ST hotels in Nana Plaza are still charging 300 baht only for the room: both are on the 3rd floor: the one next to Cascade LB Go Go bar, and the one on the left hand side near the elevator. Vote with your feet!
