Nana Plaza News: Bunnies bar, Villabar and the center of the Plaza

by Suk Psycho ~ November 14th, 2010. Filed under: Beer Bars, Go-Go Bars.

I stopped a Bunnies bar on a week day and it was empty.

Bunnies is this new bar replacing Cathouse bar on the second floor of Nana Plaza, overhanging the entrance to the Plaza and the stairs to the second floor. According to the web rumors, it was supposed to be a promising Coyote Bar and all. Another proof that one should never trust the rumors.

Bunnies is just another beer bar with a stage (kind of of Go Go bar but without girls :) ) and when I visited it was empty. Completely empty. Not empty as in “no customer”. No. Empty as in “no customer, no girl, no service staff, etc”. Well, to be honest, there were actually 2 girls sitting at the bar, but they looked like they couldn’t care less about what happened around them. Another girl, sitting outside on a stool on the small balcony in front of the bar, came to greet me (the only visitor) and to escort me inside.

My first reaction was “oh yes, according to Stickman the boss is back to Europe”. But wait a minute. No. That was the boss of the previous bar, Cathouse, who went back to Europe, not the boss of Bunnies. Then where is the boss?

None of the 3 girls were anything close to pretty, I didn’t even order a drink and quickly left.

On my way back to the stairs I had a look at Villabar, the bar next to Bunnies bar. I wonder how such a bar can have some business there. It’s nothing but an ordinary bar, without anything outstanding. Why would anyone come to Nana Plaza to drink in this kind of bar that you can find anywhere else??? That’s a mystery to me.

And what about the work in progress in Nana Plaza? Everyone had an opinion about what would be the new renovated plaza in the middle of Nana Plaza, where all the beer bars were. Not me. Actually I was puzzled to consider that even the bar owners of the Plaza only had a guess, not a certainty. Why would it be that the owners of NEP, the guys who decide what they want to build and where, did not inform every one about something that really concerns them and their business?

Now I have my opinion: there won’t be anything there. But they keep it silent because they don’t want to displease or scare the bar owners and other tenants. Therefore they let the rumors go.

Of course that’s just an opinion and I have no evidence, but I am pretty sure that nothing will be built in the center of the Plaza in the short term. Let’s see.

Sounds depressing. Im sure the Nana plaza days are numbered as we know and loved it. Maybe not though…

Villa Bar…..theres a massive glass window connecting it and its sister bar next door…Rainbow 3?…the concept is you can have a beer, watch the go-go girls and show and NOT get asked for ladydrinks or get hassled by serving staff/mamasan. A break from the protocol in other bars in NEP. Its also quieter,so conversation is possible. Its a little bar that works well.

As for Bunnies,I spoke to the owners a couple of months ago before it opened…they are based in Singapore I think. I also heard that Nigel,a former manager at the Big Mango in the short-time alley opposite the Raja car park was going to be the new manager at Bunnies. As I always thought he was a tosspot and seriously useless and vacuous employee there,it comes as no surprise that Bunnies isn’t doing well if he is at the helm.
