Sukhumvit Psycho

Silom soi 4 is a gay soi. The small soi is full of bars, clubs, shops and restaurants targeting mainly gay people. Groups of men, couples of men, groups of friends, couples of girls, etc. gather there and seat inside or outside of the bars. They talk, they drink, they watch the crowd, they entertain their friends and pick up new ones.

Tapas Room club is famous for both gay and non-gay patrons. Balcony and Telephone are the 2 largest bars, both offering numerous outdoor seats, and making the soi look like a busy drinking street as one would find in the summer, in any large European city. The vibe is rather good.

Near the end of the soi, on the right hand side, is the new 9 night club, a cabaret-like club with ladyboys and gay men shows.

There is a cover charge of 200 baht, but this include 2 drinks. Beer, whisky coke, vodka redbull, etc. Most drinks are available with only one ticket. This is a rather good deal as the choice is not limited to a house cocktail or a cheap beer as this happens to often with prepaid drinks.

The club is rather large, with a ground floor with the bar, a large stage with a catwalk, seats and stools and places for standing, and a balcony with additional seats and spaces to watch the show.

Ladyboy shows are usually a bit boring, with too much dressed katoeys moving and dancing and trying to act like females, but at 9 night club the shows are a bit more complex and quiet entertaining. These are basically songs like musicals that the well disguised ladyboys pretend to sing by themselves. The choregraphy is well arranged and proves more work than the usual gogo bar shows.The LB play with the audience and add funny moments and grotesque situations from time to time.

After the ladyboy shows are over (around 30 minutes), a few rather handsome gay Thai men come on the stage half naked and dance for the audience. This part of the show has obviously less success than the LB part, as this is when most of the crowd leaves the place to move to the real night clubs of this part of the town.

The show starts around midnight. Be there in advance if you want a good seat. Don’t be surprised while walking down soi 4 if gay men stare at you, waiters greet you more than friendly and ladyboys start a conversation.
